Camel Bookmobile Book Release Promotion
Client Brief
We were asked to supply a promotional unit, i.e. van, bus, coach or trailer to undertake a two week book release promotion. The unit needed to be
- Fitted with internal bookshelves for at least 2,000 books
- Low cost
- Could be branded
- Preferably Self-Drive
Process
After reviewing the brief we proposed that hiring a mobile library was the way forward, the client agreed and we began the search.
After several days we managed to source a mobile library available for hire, negotiated a cost for the vehicle, insurance and branding.
Unfortunately several weeks passed before the client decided that they wished to "go ahead" with the promotion, by which time the vehicle, 1 of only 2 Mobile library vehicles available to hire in the UK had been hired to a local authority on a long term hire contract, this was also the case with the other hire library vehicle.
Problems/Resolutions
With both of the mobile library vehicles that are available for hire in the UK already hired out, we had a problem. Although all our quotes are based upon a vehicles continued availability we, as a company, dislike letting clients down, with this situation we pulled out all the stops.
We searched the UK for other library vehicles that may of been available for hire, to no avail, next we searched for mobile libraries that were for sale and found two, 1 x 3.5 tonne and 1 x 7.5 tonne.
After discussing the situation with the client, we decided to purchase the mobile library and hire it to the client for their promotion, although the purchase cost far outweighed the rental income.
On this occasion our decision was based upon two prime objectives
- The client was a repeat client with several promotions booked over a short period of time
- The vehicle offered not only the current client all the facilities they required, but opened up new rental possibilities.
The promotion was so successful the client is looking at repeating the concept over a longer period and larger geographical area
