Corby Health MoT's

Client Brief

Corby Borough Council required a 12 month hire vehicle configured to perform basic health checks on residents at the same time they required a data collection system. The vehicle had to be:

  • Low Budget
  • Self-Drive
  • Quiet (No generator if possible)
  • Self Contained
  • Provide Data Collection
  • Provide an Information Delivery System

Process

After discussions with Corby Environmental Health department, who where organising the Health MoT and Smoking Cessation Campaign we proceeded to design the optimal vehicle.

We decided upon a rigid 28ft hgv unit as the vehicle of choice and developed layout plans of the units interior to include

  • Kitchen area for Healthy Eating Campaign
  • Networked Computer System for data collection and Information delivery
  • 32" LCD Screen connected to computer, laptop and Xbox 360
  • Waiting and Examination area

Problems/Resolutions

Silent Operation: This caused the most problems, how to run a high electricity usage vehicle for 8 hours without a generator, taking in to account that the vehicle carried

  • 10 computers and monitors
  • 32" LCD TV
  • Xbox 360
  • Laptop
  • Printer
  • Smoothy  maker
  • Juicer
  • Kettle
  • Microwave
  • Fridge
  • Variety of mains powered health check equipment
  • Variety of onboard vehicle systems including wheelchair lift, lighting and heating

Our solution was to incorporate a large bank of "Leisure Batteries" these connected to 2 Invertors which in turn connected to the 2 ring main wiring circuits. This system allowed the vehicle to operate for a minimum of 8hrs without a re-charge. In the event that the vehicle was expected to operate for longer periods we provided a supplementary 2kw portable generator with sound proof box to plug in to the vehicles re-charge system.

Data Collection & Information Delivery: Although not as difficult to achieve as the silent operation this aspect of the campaign brief had one small issue to overcome "Self Containment" which meant everything had to run from within the vehicle including websites and the data collection system.

Our solution was to develop a self-contained Intranet, with the vehicle running it's own server system including web server, our technical staff, who operate from the FACTEL Studio website developed a bespoke web based data collection system for the vehicle, which not only provided the basic health check data collection system but also provided individual client reports (both printed and in PDF format) and statistical analysis of all the data collected.

With these problems solved our next problem was to deliver the vehicle fully wrapped and equipped to Corby for the launch of the service, this being 5 weeks from the order date, a tall order considering we estimated a minimum of 8 weeks to build the unit. Always up for a challenge we set to work at full speed and managed to deliver the vehicle, with 4 hrs to spare, in time for the publicity launch.

Please note: Self drive vehicles are not always an option, due to various constraints, including both insurance and driving licence regulations, however we do were possible make this arrangement if requested
