Exacting Requirements

We were asked to supply four non promotional vehicles for the opening sequences of the X Factor and Xtra Factor TV programmes. The brief was very brief insomuch as the client required the largest vehicles of their type with the vehicle types being Rigid Truck, Double Decker Coach, American Truck (tractor unit) with 45ft Trailer.

The vehicles had to be available for one week and needed to be branded in the X Factor livery, simple enough!

Not So Simple

When searching for "oddball" vehicles, i.e. those not usually used in promotional work there are a number of time consuming problems to overcome, possibly the most important of these is sourcing the vehicle(s).

Once the vehicles are found the next hurdle is convincing the owners to rent the vehicle out at a cost everyone is happy with, in some cases the owners are private individuals and negotiating costs can be difficult to say the least, especially as they are not aware of some of the potential running cost issues.

Last and potentially the deal breaker is arranging for the vehicles to be branded for the promotion, with companies this isn't a major issue however when dealing with individuals there can be major issues to resolve before agreement is reached.

With the X Factor vehicles the above process took over 90 man hours

Branded and "On the Road"

Once agreement was reached it was just a question of waiting for the start date at which time the vehicles arrived in Cirencester for branding and took part in 3 days of filming

You have only to view the opening sequences of both X Factor and Xtra Factor to see the impact and presence of these vehicles
