We are not trailer manufacturers and we have no experience in manufacturing exhibition trailers, however we have considerably more experience in buying trailers than the majority of our clients and when it comes to buying a new trailer experience counts, saving both time and money.
How Bespoke is Bespoke
A recent example of cost saving involved the purchase of a 4.2m exhibition trailer, we arranged five quotations from suppliers/manufacturers we knew supplied the type of trailer the client required the difference in cost between the highest the lowest for the identical unit was almost a 50%.
Why the cost difference?
Obviously there will be the usual cost difference between manufacturers based upon the manufacturers current labour, material, back-office operating costs and profit margins, but that doesn't explain such a large difference in costs between these five suppliers/manufacturers
Although each trailer is built bespoke for a client, most, if not all trailer manufacturers build trailers from existing plans/designs which will consist of a base design with a series of plans for alternate layouts all with associated templates for the craftsmen to utilise when building the required trailer the bespoke part is the minor modification for individual client preference.
To four of the suppliers/manufacturers these plans and templates did not exist for the trailer required and a part of their quotes would of involved the cost of generating these extra plans and templates, it may also of involved the purchase of non stock items. However the fifth manufacturer had a full range of plans, templates and stock items to match the clients requirements hence the lowest quote.
Please Note: The four suppliers who quoted the highest were two were within 10% of the highest price the forth was within 10% of the lowest price and on this occasion the lowest cost was from one of the larger manufacturer with a solid reputation for quality builds.
